- 100 % AERO: we’ve put aerodynamic elements where they’re really needed, not just where they look good. And so we’ve made our most aerodynamic road bike ever. Yes, more than the Venge. With the Speed Sniffer, the Tarmac’s new cone, clean air is optimized for maximum advantage. By moving the head tube back (which determines the angle of the head tube), the leading edge of the head tube is much sharper and the shape created has much less aerodynamic drag. Taking advantage of the new UCI rules, the Tarmac SL8 has the narrowest and most aerodynamic seatpost we’ve made to date. This allows dirty air around the legs to flow more cleanly to the rear. Victories taste sweet, don’t they?
- MINIMUM WEIGHT, MAXIMUM AERODYNAMICS: Based on lessons learned with the Aethos, the Tarmac SL8 is designed to meet minimum UCI requirements and offer 100% aero construction. The team has created an incredible 685 gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour frame*. We’ve also applied what we learned with the Aethos to prioritize the lightness of the down tube, seat tube and rear of the bike. The shape of the frame carries the load so efficiently that there’s no need to add extra layers of carbon. *Unless you count the time Kasper Asgreen rode our 585-gram Aethos frame in a stage of the Tour de France.
- Rides like a rocket, rides like a dream: With an optimized stiffness-to-weight ratio (33% better than the SL7), the Tarmac SL8 offers legendary handling, aggressive response and world championship-proven geometry that’s out of this world. The bike is stiffer in the pedals, more precise in the handlebars and more comfortable in the saddle, so much so that it sets a new standard for racing bike comfort. Thanks to our Rider-First Engineering, all riders, regardless of size, can enjoy a ride quality and control that has never been seen before. In the saddle, the Tarmac SL8 offers 6% more comfort: it floats over rough terrain and offers a smoothness that is rare in the demanding world of racing bikes. The Tarmac’s geometry and clearance for the 32mm tires are identical to those of the SL7, ensuring an easy fit and the ability to use larger tires when needed.
